Patios & Decks

Tulsa General Contractor and Home Remodeling professional, Sonrise Construction, also specializes in patios and decks.

We build two types of decks: stained cedar, and composite by Evergrain. Decks have several options to consider for other than just the basic deck surface, such as: steps, step rails, hand rails, under deck skirting, pedestals, spindles, and LED lighting.

Decks can be built around large trees, and can be configured into virtually any size, location, or style. It does not have to be a basic square or rectangle. Many our custom decks are bi-level, or have ramps, or are built with L’s, and several are built next to our custom Gunite swimming pools.

All deck support posts are set on top of concrete piers, and have treated lumber underneath for superior support. The joists are held in place with super strong metal joist anchors. And to prevent the top side boards from splitting, we use special screws to mount the boards to the underneath support joists.

For patios, we will build three most common types: basic concrete, decorative concrete, or mortared Flagstone. Decorative concrete has already been discussed on other pages. For mortared Flagstone, we will work hand in hand with you for your selection. We usually only use 2” thick Flagstone, mortared on top of a concrete base for stability and longevity. The most popular selections of Flagstone vary from cinnamon, to rainbow, to Sebastian, to Colorado rosa, to blue mist, and many others, as the list is quite extensive.

For Decks, we provide two (2) types of decking materials:

1. Stained Cedar Deck, or

2. Composite Deck from Trex or MoistureShield.

This is an amazing website with information, history, pictures, and ideas:

*Our previous composite supplier offered only Evergrain when the company started in '01, as Evergrain offered a 25 year warranty. But, our supplier has since discontinued the Evergrain line, and is now the exclusive supplier for MoistureShield, which was the 1st composite deck in the business, since '89, and still offers a transferable Lifetime Warranty on their product.

For Cedar deck, there is not much technical information available. It is a great looking product, has a long life, can be stained, is easy to install, and will wow many a guest when stepping on to it in your back yard.

Composite deck is the premium line of deck choice, and is the choice that more customers invest in year after year. If you are looking for better performance across the board; then, depending on your project and budget, we have the deck board to fit your needs, be it Cedar or MoistureShield.

This is captured directly from the MoistureShield website:

"Innovation and craftsmanship drive all that we do. Our unique manufacturing process totally encapsulates natural wood fibers in polyethylene plastic. This delivers extremely durable decking that can even have direct ground contact. Plus our deck boards are extruded and allowed to cool slowly, which means they will not twist or warp. MoistureShield is non-toxic and doesn't require staining, painting or sealing.

Available in a solid profile, our reversible boards features a natural wood-grain texture on both sides, allowing use of either side for easier installation. In addition, the planks come with or without grooves to accommodate hidden fastening systems. MoistureShield offers a straightforward, industry leading warranty against rot, decay and termite damage, but our performance is unmatched. Since we started making our incredible deck boards, we've never had a field failure... ever."

Explore the many color and profile options available in our Essential and Vantage Collections. There you will find the perfect solution that will feel like a natural extension to your home."

Deck boards are installed on top of underside framing consisting of #2 treated lumber, iron gusset plates, and angle iron supports. All deck boards will be screwed down with GRK RSS structural pinhead screws that almost disappear into the deck board.

Options for your deck design: Stairs, Rails, Skirts, Angle Board Cuts, Trim Boards, Mouldings, Pattern Inserts, and the super popular LED Lighting.
